Greyhound Arena Greyhound Arena is considered one of the finest NCAA Division II athletic facilities in the Southwest. The arena provides the home court for ENMUs mens basketball, womens basketball and volleyball teams. More than 4,800 fans can watch games in the horseshoe-shaped arena. Seating is available in two levels, including chair-back seating throughout the lower level. Greyhound Arena was completed in 1967 and renovated in 1988. The facility has three indoor and six outdoor racquetball courts, a fitness center, a brand new athletic training center, locker rooms and several weight training rooms. The arena physical activity center was improved over the past few years with the addition of treadmills and cardiovascular equipment, weight machines and free weights and mirrors. Future plans include installing televisions for instant access to cable programming. The spacious lobby houses trophies and plaques from many Eastern teams, athletes and coaches who have represented the University over the years. The lobby includes a ticket booth and concession stand. An elevator added in 1997 makes the complex more easily accessible to the disabled. The arena features an all-wood floor, which provides a quality surface for the fast-paced action of college basketball and volleyball. New scoreboards were installed in Spring 2000 along with a new sound system in Spring 2001. Located just outside Greyhound Arena is a lighted message center. It is used to promote upcoming athletic events, as well as concerts and other functions across the ENMU campus. Greyhound Stadium Greyhound Stadium seats 6,100 fans, including an area of enclosed seating on the home side of the field. The enclosed seating is underneath the stadiums large press box. The stadium is equipped with lights, and ENMU plays several night games each season. The press box has media and statistics rooms, as well as individual rooms for coaching staffs from both teams, home and visiting radio stations, and the scoreboard operator and public address announcer. The home-side and visitor side seating is elevated above field level, providing an excellent view of the game. Zia Tennis Complex ENMU's womens tennis team plays home matches at the Zia Tennis Complex, located on the ENMU campus. The facility was built in 1980 to host ENMU tennis matches and other local events. The Zia Tennis Complex has six lighted courts, but most matches are held during the day. A nearby parking lot provides easy access to the complex, while various trees and bushes create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Eastern hosted the Lone Star Conference mens and womens Tennis Tournament in 1995. Greyhound Field Greyhound Field was built by Easterns baseball team when the program was revived for the 1992 season. The team constructed a quality facility, with some of the largest outfield dimensions in baseball 362 feet to left field, 406 feet to center field, and 372 feet to right field. It has a grass infield with dirt base paths, plus a natural grass outfield. The facility also features bleacher seating behind home plate, a press box along the first base line, bullpen areas for both teams, and a concession stand. Indoor rest rooms are located near the field. Greyhound Field is equipped with lights, allowing the Greyhounds to schedule a couple of night games each season. Zia Softball Field The 1999 season was just the third year of ENMU softball. It was also the first season for an on-campus facility the Zias could call home. After playing two seasons at a city park in Portales, the Zias now had their own field. Zia Softball Field was dedicated in February 1999 with a ribbon- cutting ceremony and a tailgate party prior to Easterns first home game of the season. Zia Softball Field is a state-of-the-art facility. It features a new scoreboard in left field, an all dirt infield, and a quality grass outfield. Grass also surrounds the infield, providing an attractive buffer between the field and dugouts. It is truly a great place to play softball. Other amenities include a batting cage, bullpens and storage rooms. The dugouts are spacious, with built-in storage areas for bats and helmets. With seating for 250 fans, a public address system and a concession stand, Zia Softball Field offers a complete athletic experience. ENMU's soccer field
