Walton and Cavalier Named to All-Region Football Team

(Portales, N.M.) --- Sophomore linebacker Michael Walton (Earth, Texas) and junior defensive back Tony Cavalier (Pampa, Texas) of Eastern New Mexico University have been named to the 1997 Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-West Region Football Team. Both players were named to the second team. The Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-West Region Football Team is selected by the sports information directors of the NCAA Division II member institutions.

Walton is a 5-10, 205 lb. public relations major from Springlake-Earth High School. Walton led the Lone Star Conference this season in tackles with 155. He also recovered three fumbles (one for a TD), had 6 tackles for loss and half a sack.

He was an All-LSC-South Division first team selection, as well as a LSC All-Academic team member. Walton was named LSC-South Defensive Player of the Week for his 28 tackle performance against West Texas A&M on November 8.

Cavalier is a 5-10, 170 lb. special education major from Pampa High School. Cavalier led the Hounds with 3 interceptions and 9 pass deflections this season. He was fourth on the team with 59 tackles.

He was a Lone Star Conference-South Division honorable mention pick.
