Cuellar and Swindle selected for Division II All-Star Game

(Portales, N.M.) --- Seniors A.C. Cuellar and Jason Swindle have been selected to participate in the 1998 Snow Bowl. The fifth annual all-star game features senior football players from NCAA Division II schools. The proceeds from the event benefit The Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children.

The game will be played on Saturday, January 10th at 2:00 pm (CST) at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota. The first Snow Bowl was in January 1994 and was developed for three specific purposes:

1) Provide a quality football and educational opportunity for players.

2) Provide exposure for players to professional scouts.

3) Raise charitable funds for Shrine Hospitals.

Cuellar is a 6-0, 235 lb. defensive end from Weslaco, Texas. He has received numerous academic and athletic awards throughout his senior season, including a 1997 National Football Foundation post-graduate fellowship. Cuellar had 45 tackles this season, in addition to 8 tackles for loss and 3 quarterback sacks. Swindle is a 5-10, 175 lb. free safety from Albuquerque. He has consistently been one of the top defensive secondary players in the Lone Star Conference over the past four years. Swindle was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week early this season and led the team in interceptions with 3. Both players received All-LSC-South Division honorable mention recognition this season. They are two of 12 LSC players chosen to play for the West squad. Five of the nine defensive backs are LSC players.

Cuellar and Swindle are the third and fourth ENMU players to be selected for the Snow Bowl. Offensive lineman Jarod Hudson and defensive lineman John Tu'uta played in the second annual Snow Bowl in 1995.

The players report on Monday, January 5 and will practice twice a day at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. They will also be involved in several community events, including visits to local schools.

The game will be carried live on KFGO radio out of Fargo, N.D. and can be heard on the internet at www.fargoweb/kfgo.
