The Greyhounds (1-0)...got the 1997-98 season started on a positive note with an 80-64 win over Wayland Baptist University of Plainview, Texas. Sophomore guard Matt Vail (6-3, Grants) had a career-high 31 points against the Pioneers, 26 in the second half of the game. Another sophomore, 6-7 post player Coby Greenwalt of Clovis, was the second leading scorer with 12 points. Senior post Bart McIntire (6-8, Liberal, Kansas) led the team in rebounding with 6. Greenwalt and senior post Angel Gutierrez (6-7, Fabens, Texas) contributed 5 each.

This Week's Opponents...the Greyhounds go on the road for a three-game trip starting Tuesday night against ENMU head coach Earl Diddle's old school, Oklahoma Panhandle State University.

OPSU is 2-0 going into Tuesday night's match-up. The Aggies participated in the Southwestern College Classic in Winfield, Kansas, gaining wins over Hastings (Neb.) College (80-72, OT) and Lindenwood (Mo.) College (66-65). Senior guard Larry Morris was named MVP of the classic. He averaged 24.0 points per game. J.J. Johnson, a senior forward, was the team's leading rebounder with 9.5 rebounds per game. OPSU is an NCAA Division II independent.

Cameron University is also 2-0 following the first weekend of basketball action. The Aggies participated in the Midwestern State University Classic in Wichita Falls, Texas. They won games over St. Edward's (Texas) University (82-69) and Northeastern State (Okla.) University (66-46). CU was led by senior guard Chewy Johnson with 22.5 points per game. Johnson is a transfer from New Mexico State University. Junior forward Paul Taylor was the leading rebounder with 12.5 per game. This will be the first of four Lone Star Conference crossover games for the Greyhounds. CU is in the LSC-North Division. They also have a game tonight against University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University is 0-2 going into Thursday night's game with West Texas A&M. The Bulldogs participated in the Southern Colorado Classic in Pueblo over the weekend. They lost games to Southern Colorado (88-63) and Colorado Christian (77-74). Senior center DeLancy Donley averaged 22.5 points in the two games. Senior guard Jo Jo Daniels was the leading rebounder with 6.0 per game. This will also be an LSC-North Division game. Crossover games do not count in LSC standings.

On the Airwaves...107.5 KSMX-FM will be broadcasting all of the Greyhound basketball games. Don Elder and Travis Barger will handle the play-by-play and color commentary for all ENMU home games. KSMX will pick up feeds of the Greyhound road games whenever possible.

Weekly Radio Show...Don Elder will also be hosting the ENMU Coaches Show on 107.5 KSMX-FM every Wednesday night at 7:00 pm from Juanito's Restaurant on Avenue C in Portales. Different ENMU coaches will join Elder to give updates on the progress of their teams throughout the winter and spring.

SportsLook...will broadcast on KENW-TV Channel 3 on Thursday nights. The show will air at 9:30 pm on November 20, then resume the 9:00 pm start on November 27. Hosted by Dallan Sanders, Sports Look will air thru finals week then take a break for the holidays. The show will resume when classes resume in January. Sports Look is an ENMU student-run production.

Ticket Prices...Reserved seats (Sections A-C behind the benches) are available for $4.00. General admission tickets are $2.00. Seasons tickets are still available for reserved seating at $35.00 for all Greyhound and Zia basketball games.
