The Zias (1-1)...got off to a solid start of the 1997-98 season. Eastern New Mexico began the season with a 73-62 win over Lone Star Conference-North Division opponent Cameron. Senior post Leigh Dalluge (Tulia, Texas) was the leading scorer for the Zias with 13 points. Sophomore post Amanda Mendez (San Antonio, Texas) was the leading rebounder with eight.

The Zias had a strong game with #2 NAIA Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday, but came up on the short end, 72-63. Mendez was the leading scorer and rebounder with 16 points and seven rebounds. She was 8 of 9 shooting from the field and had two blocked shots.

This Week's Opponents...the Zias will be on the road Thanksgiving weekend at the Western New Mexico Classic in Silver City. They will play intrastate rival New Mexico Highlands University on Friday and Fort Lewis College of Durango, Colorado on Saturday.

The NMHU Cowgirls are 2-1 going into this week's tournament. They are led in scoring by senior forward Rosabelle Charlie (Low Mountain, Ariz.) with 20.0 points per game. Senior center Nicole Allman (Albuquerque) leads the team in rebounding with 8.7 per game, while freshman forward Laura Boots (Alamogordo) follows with 7.0 per game. Charlie is hitting 61.3% from the field, including 8 of 15 from three-point range.

The Fort Lewis Skyhawks are 2-0 going into Tuesday night's game against Division I Texas-El Paso. The Skyhawks are led in scoring by senior forward Ceilien Rivera (Red Cliff, Colo.) with 11.5 points per game. She also averages 9.0 reboundsd per game. Head coach Keith Durham and freshman guard Kasi Kibbe are natives of Portales, New Mexico. Durham graduated from ENMU with his bachelor's (1989) and master's (1995) degrees. He was an assistant to Zia head coach Wayne Moore from 1987-89 and Greyhound head coach Earl Diddle from 1993-95.

Slamson, the Sacramento Kings mascot...will perform during the Eastern New Mexico doubleheader against Harding University on Thursday, December 4. Slamson was a guest of ENMU last season, performing several acrobatic moves and encouraging crowd involvement. It will be the home opener for the Zias. Game time is 5:30 pm at Greyhound Arena.

On the Airwaves...95.3 KSEL-FM will be broadcasting several Zia basketball games. Don Elder and Travis Barger will handle the play-by-play and color commentary for the ENMU home games. KSEL will pick up feeds of the Zia road games whenever possible.

Weekly Radio Show...Don Elder will also be hosting the ENMU Coaches Show on 107.5 KSMX-FM every Wednesday night at 7:00 pm from Juanito's Restaurant on Avenue C in Portales. Different ENMU coaches will join Elder to give updates on the progress of their teams throughout the winter and spring.

SportsLook...will broadcast on KENW-TV Channel 3 on Thursday nights. The show will air at 9:00 pm on November 27. Hosted by Dallan Sanders, Sports Look will take a break for finals week and the holidays. The show will resume when classes resume in January. Sports Look is an ENMU student-run production.

Ticket Prices...Reserved seats (Sections A-C behind the benches) are available for $4.00. General admission tickets are $2.00. Seasons tickets are still available for reserved seating at $35.00 for all Greyhound and Zia basketball games.
