Against Texas A&M-Kingsville...the Greyhounds hit a buzzsaw in Kingsville, Texas as the
nationally-ranked Javelinas ripped off 35 unanswered points in the first quarter. The Hounds
were able to put together two scoring drives in the second quarter, but the Javelinas scored their
sixth touchdown of the half to stop some of the Greyhound momentum going into the second
half.
The Hounds scored early and late in the second quarter. Senior halfback Charlie Ragle
(Playas) scored on a 30-yard run 45 seconds into the second quarter (14:15). Senior halfback
Isaiah Jackson (San Antonio, Texas) scored on a 73-yard run with 1:37 left in the half. Jackson
finished the evening with a career-high 105 yards rushing on 9 carries. Bruce Hatch (So., FB,
Bloomfield) was the second leading rusher with 98 yards on 13 carries.
On defense, the highlights were few. Defensive back Brian Hulett (Jr., Earth, Texas)
came up with his second interception of the season in the second quarter for a return of 23 yards.
Senior defensive end A.C. Cuellar came up with 5 tackles, 3 for losses of 13 yards and 1 sack for
a loss of 8 yards. Sophomore linebacker Michael Walton (Earth, Texas) was the top tackler for
ENMU for the eighth game of the season with 9, 1 for a loss of 1 yard.
Grounded Hounds...junior fullback Todd Wallis (Lewisville, Texas) may be out for the final two games of the season with a injury to his ribs. Quarterback Cam Sanders (shoulder/wrist), kicker/punter Brian Cocking (ankle), offensive guard Nathan Mastin (ankle) and free safety Jason Swindle (knee) are probable for Saturday's game against West Texas A&M.
Roster changes...halfbacks Leroy Valdez (Jr., Portales) and Craig Williams (Sr., Yuma, Ariz.) left the team last week for personal reasons.
About West Texas A&M...the Buffs did in Midwestern State on Saturday, 51-7. West Texas scored 24 points in the first quarter to MSU's 7. Receiver Kory Jones made two catches for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Scott Boldvich had the other passing touchdown in his five receptions for 66 yards.
Quotes from Bud...About the Texas A&M-Kingsville game - "We got excellent performances
from Isaiah Jackson and Bruce Hatch. Cam Sanders also had a great game."
"We got blitzed in the first quarter by a good team and never recovered. Our kicking
team did not hold up, we got buried."
About West Texas A&M - "They will come in ready to play. They have had a
successful offensive game this season. Their defense also has played very well."
"Our teams are fairly evenly matched. The Wagon Wheel makes it a special ball game."
"We need to get a solid performance out of our defensive team. We need to continue to
make progress on ball security. We have to come out aggressively from the start of the ball
game."
