Estlund breaks 11-year old record...In the second game of Saturday's match against Abilene Christian, senior setter Stacey Estlund (Clarkston, Wash.) broke Zia great Barbara Lynn's career assist record of 2,165 that was set in 1986. Estlund will add to the record with five regular season matches and the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament left in 1997.

Estlund is currently third on the season assist list with 1,044. She needs 133 assists to break the season record of 1,176 assists set by Brandi Reynolds in 1995. She already holds second place with her 1,153 assists last season.

A special presentation will be made on Tuesday, November 4 during pre-game with Barbara Lynn in attendance to pass the torch to Stacey Estlund.

Estlund and Dougherty sweep LSC-South Player of the Week selections...In addition to breaking the 11-year old assist record, Estlund was named the LSC-South Setter of the Week. The Zias were 3-0 last week, while Estlund averaged 15.2 assists in nine games. She also had 1 service ace, 20 digs, 8 kills and 10 blocks.

Tara Dougherty, a senior outside hitter from Clovis, was named LSC-South Hitter of the Week. Dougherty averaged 4.9 kills in nine games and hit .330. She also had 3 service aces, 35 digs and 10 blocks.

The Zias (15-12, 5-4 LSC South)...take a four-match winning streak into this week's matches with 3-0 wins over New Mexico Highlands, Angelo State and Abilene Christian last week.

This Week....the Zias host a new opponent in College of the Southwest from Hobbs. The Lady Mustang program began in 1994. CSW is currently 10-22.

ENMU travels to Texas A&M-Kingsville for the Javelinas Homecoming match. The Zias will be looking for revenge since TAMUK beat ENMU, 3-2 in Portales in September.

Injury report...freshman hitter Jessica Crawford (Clovis) torn her left hamstring in the first game of the Abilene Christian match on Saturday. Crawford is expected to miss the rest of the season.

The New LSC...the 1997 season begins expanded conference competition with 13 schools competing for the Lone Star Conference title. ENMU will compete in the South Division with Abilene Christian University, Angelo State University, Midwestern State University, Tarleton State University, Texas A&M University-Kingsville and West Texas A&M University. The Zias were picked third in the 1997 LSC-South Division Pre-season Volleyball Poll with 174 points behind West Texas A&M and Texas A&M-Kingsville. They will play each team in the South Division at home and on the road, with four matches thrown in against North Division opponents. ENMU will play Cameron University, University of Central Oklahoma, Texas A&M University-Commerce and Texas Woman's University. North Division schools Harding University and Ouachita Baptist University are not on the 1997 schedule. The top three teams from each division will advance to the LSC Post-season Tournament on November 11, 13 and 15.

Coming Up for the Zias...will be at home on Tuesday, November 4 against an old favorite, New Mexico Highlands. This will be the fourth time that the two teams have met this season. The Zias have taken all three matches.
