Doolittle Named LSC-South Division Player of the Year

(Portales, N.M.) --- Eastern New Mexico University first baseman Jennifer Doolittle has been named the 1998 Lone Star Conference-South Division Player of the Year. The senior from Aurora, Colorado is second in the LSC in hitting (.470). The LSC-South Division First Team first baseman leads the conference in runs scored (51), hits (78), doubles (16), triples (8), and RBI (72). She was named LSC-South Division Hitter of the Week for the third time this season on Wednesday, April 29.

Joining Doolittle on the LSC-South Division First Team from ENMU is outfielder Kim Paschall. The freshman from Midland, Texas is third in the LSC in hits (64), tied with Doolittle for the LSC lead in runs scored (51) and tied for 8th in stolen bases (12). The Zia lead-off hitter was the only freshman named to the LSC-South Division First Team.

Six more Zias were honorable mention selections - sophomore second baseman Julie Smith (a second-team pick in 1997; Albuquerque), freshman shortstop Sarah Rempp (Greeley, Colo.), sophomore outfielder Sarah Boatright (Glendale, Ariz.), junior designated player Casi Madison (Midland, Texas), freshman designated player Suzy Seitzinger (Bloomfield), and freshman pitcher Jennifer Harrer.

Sophomore designated player/outfielder Katie Ellsworth (Albuquerque) was one of 31 student-athletes named to the 1998 LSC Academic All-Conference Softball Team. Ellsworth is a sophomore with a double major of religion and psychology. Members of the Academic All-Conference Team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.30.
