The Greyhounds (2-4, 0-0 LSC-South)...won their home opening series this weekend with a pair of come-from-behind wins over intrastate rival New Mexico Highlands. In Saturday's game, ENMU pitcher Adrian Tapia (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) gave up six runs in the first inning but hung in to complete the nine inning game for a 10-7 victory. Tapia gave up 8 hits, 2 earned runs, walked 3 and struck out 7 to improve his record to 1-1.

The Greyhounds finally gave Tapia some support in the bottom of the sixth inning. Senior catcher Tyke Posey (Farmington) hit a two-run homer to pull ENMU within one run, 6-5. Eastern needed the bottom of the eighth to pull ahead on a Zac Fox (Rialto, Calif.) two-run homer, 7-6. Posey, designated hitter Alex Maynez (Alamogordo), center fielder Sam George (Eau Claire, Wis.), and right fielder Scott Henry (Aurora, Colo.) followed with four consecutive singles to raise the score to 10-6. Fox, Posey, Maynez and Henry had two hits each in the game.

Sunday's game saw two freshman pitchers making their home debuts in a combined effort 14-8 win over New Mexico Highlands. Tim King (Carlsbad) started the game, working five innings. He gave up 6 runs on 7 hits, walked 2 and struck out 3. Victor Hockett (Farmington) finished the game, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, and struck out 4. Hockett picked up the win in relief, raising his record to 1-1.

From the plate, the Greyhounds combined for 20 hits, including six doubles and one home run by Posey. Second baseman Steven Heredia (Las Cruces) and catcher Slubby Bennalley (Kirtland) had 4 hits each, while George and left fielder Brian Cronk (Cottonwood, Ariz.) had 3 each. Cronk scored 3 of the Greyhound runs, playing his third position of the season. Last week at Grand Canyon he played third base and pitched.
