This Week in Zia Softball

Schedule Changes...the Zias' doubleheader with New Mexico Highlands on March 2 has been moved up to Tuesday, February 24 in Las Vegas at 1:00 pm.

Another change comes in March - the dates of the Emporia State Invitational are March 20-21, not 21-22. The Oklahoma Panhandle State doubleheader in Goodwell has been moved up a day from the 23rd to 22nd.

The Zias (3-5-1, 0-0 LSC-South)...advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Colorado Thunderwolves Invitational over the weekend in Pueblo. The Zias were 2-1 in pool play on Friday with wins over Adams State (7-2) and Colorado College (7-3) sandwiching a loss to host Southern Colorado (6-4). In the quarterfinals ENMU beat Colorado-Colorado Springs, 8-5 to advance against Mesa State. MSC won the game, 7-6.

Senior first baseman Jennifer Doolittle (Aurora, Colorado) was 11 of 17 (.647) in the tournament with five RBI, six runs scored, two doubles, three triples and one stolen base.

Freshman Jennifer Harrer (Albuquerque) picked up two of the three wins in 14.2 innings of work. She threw two complete games in wins over Adams State and UC-Colorado Springs. She only gave up one walk and struck out seven batters. Freshman Suzy Seitzinger (Bloomfield) played in all five games as an outfielder, pitcher or designated hitter. She picked up the third win against Colorado College and hit .455 with 3 RBI, two doubles and two triples. In 12 innings of work, she walked three and struck out eight batters.

Junior catcher/designated hitter Mystee Sarracino (Hobbs) hit .438 in five games with six RBI, one double and two triples. Freshmen shortstop/catcher Sarah Rempp (Greeley, Colo.) hit .400 in the tournament with three RBI.

This Week...the Zias have a light week with a doubleheader against NCAA Division I Texas Tech University in Lubbock on Wednesday. The Red Raiders, currently 6-2, beat ENMU earlier this season in Albuquerque at the Lobo Invitational, 9-1.

Up Next for the Zias...will be a day trip to New Mexico Highlands University on Tuesday, Feb. 24 for a doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
