Greyhound Basketball Wraps Up Season With Win

All-Lone Star Conference-South Division...sophomore Matt Vail (Grants) is a second team all-LSC-South Division pick. The announcement was made today. Vail was the leading scorer for the Greyhounds this season with 19.3 points per game. He also led the team in steals with 32 and was second on the team in assists with 49. Vail was the 1997 LSC Freshman of the Year.

The Greyhounds (8-18, 3-11 LSC-South)...ended the 1997-98 season with a split. ENMU lost a tough game to Abilene Christian, 74-64 on Thursday. Vail had 17 points to lead the Hounds' scoring. Senior post Angel Gutierrez (Fabens, Texas) chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. Junior post Aaron Buckmister (Mesa, Ariz.) was the top rebounder for ENMU with seven. Junior point guard Daryl Bickham (Alamogordo) dished out eight assists.

Saturday night the Greyhounds ruined Angelo State head coach Ed Messbarger's retirement party by beating the Rams, 73-63. Vail put up 25 points in the season closer. Buckmister was the top rebounder with eight.
