Additions to Baseball Schedule...the series with Northern Colorado scheduled for March 28 and 29 has been cancelled. Instead the Greyhounds will do a little road tripping during Spring Break. They will travel to Wayland Baptist on Monday, March 30 for a 5:00 pm game. On Tuesday and Wednesday, they will travel to intrastate rival New Mexico Highlands for games beginning at 2:00 pm each day.

Jennifer Doolittle named LSC-South Division Hitter of the Week...for her eight game performance last week. The Zias were 5-3 last week. Doolittle, a senior first baseman from Aurora, Colorado, was 13 of 27 from the plate (.481) with 11 runs scored, 18 RBI, three doubles, one homerun, two walks, no strikeouts, four stolen bases and a .985 fielding average. Doolittle was a 1997 NFCA All-South Central Region first team selection. She is currently one or two in offensive categories in the Lone Star Conference.

Zia Softball (12-17-1, 0-0 LSC-South)...prepares for Lone Star Conference-South Division action against Texas Woman's University. The Pioneers come into the weekend series in Portales with a 13-5 record and an 8-game winning streak. The streak began with a 2-0 win over the Zias in Lawton, Oklahoma on March 6. They have only had two runs scored against them in the streak. It will be the start of league play for both teams.

Greyhound Baseball (14-16, 0-0 LSC-South)...won a 15-10 game against Wayland Baptist University last night. Freshman Victor Hockett (Farmington) picked up his second win of the season. The Greyhounds play Texas Tech (19-10) tonight in Lubbock.

KSEL-AM 1450...will carry home Greyhound baseball games. Don Elder will bring the play-by-play of all the Greyhound action.

The Zia Tennis Team (4-5)...struggled this weekend against West Texas A&M (W, 5-4), Southern Colorado (L, 4-5) and Cameron (L, 1-8). The highlight of the weekend was sophomore Julie Stiles (Roswell) winning three matches at #2 singles for the Zias. Stiles downed all three opponents in two sets. She and partner Alejandra Miralles (Alicante, Spain) went 1-2 at #1 doubles.

The Zias get another chance at Southern Colorado on Friday in Pueblo, then a chance at Northern Colorado on Saturday. UNC knocked the Zias out of the NCAA tournament in 1997.

The ENMU Rodeo Team...won the women's team championship and the all-around cowgirl at the New Mexico Junior College Rodeo over the weekend. The Zias came up with 205 points for the win, while freshman Kelly Saiz accumulated 155 points in the competition.

The Greyhounds finished 5th with 110 points. Craig Chavez finished second in the bull riding competition with 141 points. Chavez won the bull riding title at the American Royale in Kansas City last fall.
