Jennifer Doolittle named LSC-South Division Hitter of the Week...for the second week in a roq for her four-game performance last week against Texas Woman's University. The Zias were 3-1 in their first weekend of Lone Star Conference-South Division action. Doolittle, a senior first baseman from Aurora, Colorado, was five of nine from the plate (.556) with three runs scored, five RBI, two doubles, one homerun, four walks (including two intentional), no strikeouts, a sacrifice hit, no stolen bases and a .931 fielding average. Doolittle was a 1997 NFCA All-South Central Region first team selection. She is currently leads the LSC in batting average, hits, home runs, runs scored, doubles and RBI.

Zia Softball (15-18-1, 3-1 LSC-South)...will take their show on the road this week to Abilene, Texas. Abilene Christian University is currently 21-12 and 1-3 in the LSC-South. The Wildcats have already played Texas A&M-Kingsville in conference competition.

The Zias will get their second chance in two weeks against a LSC-South Pitcher of the Week selection in ACU's Shelly Owen from Carlsbad. Owen is 19-7 on the season with a 1.67 ERA. Chantiel McDonnell is the leading batter for ACU at .410.

Greyhound Baseball (16-17, 0-0 LSC-South)...lost a tough 13 inning game with Texas Tech last Tuesday in Lubbock, 6-5. Freshman Tim King of Carlsbad threw a solid seven innings before leaving the game with a 4-2 lead.

Against Wayland Baptist on Monday night, ENMU beat the Pioneers for the second week in a row, 9-6.

KSEL-AM 1450...will carry home Greyhound baseball games. Don Elder will bring the play-by-play of all the Greyhound action.

The Zia Tennis Team (4-7)...was downed by injuries this weekend. ENMU lost to Southern Colorado, 2-7 and to Northern Colorado, 2-7. Against USC, sophomore Julie Stiles (Roswell) and Robbie Jones (Portales) recorded wins at #2 and #5 singles. Stiles and #1 singles Alejandra Miralles (Alicante, Spain) picked up wins against UNC.

Freshmen Tawny Richard and Betsy Cata are out for the season. Richard has a stress fracture in her lower right leg, while Cata tore her right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on Wednesday in practice. Juniors Rozlyn Gorski (tissue strain right foot) and Dena Boans (tendonitis in right wrist) missed Saturday's match against Northern Colorado.
