VOLLEYBALL (22-9, 9-3 LSC)
CLINCHED LSC BERTH

The Zias lost their only match last week, as Texas A&M-Kingsville claimed a 3-1 victory over ENMU on Sat., Nov. 7 in Kingsville, Texas. The loss did not effect ENMU’s seeding in the LSC Tournament, but the win allowed TAMUK to clinch the final playoff berth from the South Division.

ENMU finished the regular season at 22-9 overall. The Zias claimed second place in the LSC South Division with a 9-3 record. TAMUK took third place in the South at 7-5. The Lady Javelinas improved to 21-11 overall.

Game scores in Saturday’s match were 15-7, 7-15, 15-10, 15-9. Both teams had powerful attacks, as ENMU earned a .245 attack percentage and TAMUK finished with a .241 attack percentage.

Serving helped Kingsville gain an edge in the match. The Lady Javelinas recorded 8 service aces compared to 4 for the Zias. Eastern also committed 12 serving errors, while Kingsville had just 6 serving errors.

Kenisha Reaux led TAMUK with 23 kills. She had a .370 hitting percentage. Kim Martinez added 17 kills and 17 digs, while Ada Ihemelu contributed 12 kills with a .360 attack percentage.

For Eastern, Rachael Grant (Jr., MB, Wenatchee, WA/Columbia Basin College) produced 14 kills and an impressive .414 attack percentage. Irma Cobos (Jr., OH, Kermit, TX/Kermit H.S.) supplied 11 kills and 15 digs.

Heather DesMarais (Jr., RS, Yakima, WA/Columbia Basin) and Charlene Hunt (Sr., OH, Sacramento, CA/Sacramento City College) each added 10 kills. Maricela Santos (Jr., MB, Laredo, TX/Laredo C.C.) connected for 9 kills on 21 attacks with no kill errors (.429).

DAVISON EXTENDS ENMU ASSIST RECORD
Junior setter Lindsey Davison (Kelso, Washington/Columbia Basin College) recorded 38 assists against Kingsville, increasing her ENMU single season record to 1,317 assists. The old record of 1,240 was set by Stacey Estlund last year.

Davison has played in all 31 matches and all 115 games this season. She is averaging 11.5 assists per game.

COBOS, HUNT AMONG CAREER DIG LEADERS
Junior outside hitter Irma Cobos (Kermit, TX/Kermit H.S.) and senior outside hitter Charlene Hunt (Sacramento, CA/Sacramento City College) are both listed among Eastern’s career dig leaders. Cobos is 3rd all-time at ENMU with 1,214 digs. She has 442 digs (3.8 per game) this season. Hunt is 6th in career digs, with 995. She leads the current team with 450 digs (4.0 per game). The ENMU record for career digs is 1,703, set by Stacy Tapper (1988-91).

ZIAS READY FOR LSC TOURNAMENT
Eastern New Mexico, the second place team in the LSC South Division, will host Harding University, the third place team in the North, on Tues., Nov. 10 in an LSC Tournament first round match. The opening serve is set for 7:00 p.m. (MST) at Greyhound Arena.

The winner of the ENMU/Harding match will travel to Cameron University for a semifinal match on Nov. 12. The LSC Championship match will be played on Nov. 14. at the higher seed.
