CROSS COUNTRY (AT TEXAS TECH)
ENMU’s cross country teams ran at the Texas Tech Red Raider Classic on Sat., Oct. 10. Nearly all of Eastern’s runners set new personal season best times. Hawk Harris (Jr., Hobbs, NM/Hobbs H.S.) led the men’s team in the 8K race, earning 14th place in 28:40.09. Mindy Clark (So., Carlsbad, NM/ Carlsbad H.S.) was the top runner for the women. She earned 14th place in the 5K race with a time of 23:23.37.

In the men’s race, ENMU finished 5th out of 5 teams with a score of 128. South Plains College won the event with 4 finishers in the Top 6 and an overall score of 34. Eastern placed 4th out of 4 teams in the women’s race. New Mexico State won the women’s title with a score of 26. ENMU scored 91.

Following Hunter in the men’s race were Henry Varela (Jr., Pecos, TX/Pecos H.S.) in 30:18.57 (26th) and Juan Castanon (So., Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.) in 30:26.94 (27th).

Other Eastern runners were John Lomasney (Jr., Gallup, NM/Gallup H.S.) who finished in 32:28.39 and Tyrone Sunde (Jr., Hugo, MN/White Bear Lake H.S.) whose time was 34:20.02.

Jennifer Voris (So., Albuquerque, NM/Eldorado H.S.) placed 18th in the women’s race in 25:43.18. Kristi Jenkins (Gr., Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic H.S.) clocked in at 26:04.59 (20th).

Other ENMU runners were Amber VanBaalan (So., Albuquerque, NM/Eldorado H.S.), who crossed the finish line in 26:36.22, and Jacqueline Atkins (Fr., Espanola, NM/Pojoaque H.S.), who completed the course in 29:34.36.

UP NEXT FOR ENMU
Eastern’s runners do not compete this week, but are off until the Lone Star Conference Cross Country Meet on Sat., Oct. 24 at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The meet will feature an 8K race for men and a 6K race for women.
