Miralles Advances to Semifinals at Rolex Tennis

(Portales, N.M.) — Senior Alejandra Sanchez-Miralles (Alicante, Spain) advanced as far as the semifinals of the women's singles at the Rolex Central Region College Tournament in Greeley, Colorado over the weekend. Miralles got into the semifinals with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 win over Chan Frazier of the University of Northern Colorado.

Number one seeded Julie Mavity of Abilene Christian beat Miralles, 6-0, 6-2 on Sunday morning, October 12, and went on to win the regional championship.

Miralles and doubles partner Julie Stiles (So., Roswell) also advanced as far as the semifinals in doubles competition. They defeated Ashlee Abrigg and Lacey Jordan of Abilene Christian, 6-1, 6-0 to reach the semis. Host players Lezley Imai and Portia White of Northern Colorado went on to beat Miralles and Stiles, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the finals.

Up next...the Zias will play their final fall competition this Saturday, October 18, at West Texas A&M University in Canyon. They will also play Seward Community College in an exhibition match.
