CROSS COUNTRY
The Eastern New Mexico men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 1998 season at the Texas Tech Invitational on Sat., Sept. 12. Three teams competed in the women’s race, with four colleges entered in the men’s competition.

Eastern took third place in the women’s division with a score of 83. Texas Tech won the race with 19 points, followed by South Plains College with 37 points.

Individually for ENMU, Mindy Clark finished 13th among all scorers, with a time of 23:30.8 for the 5,000-meter course. Michele Rice clocked in at 25:01.8 for 19th place, while Veronica Samaniego finished in 23rd place in 25:48.4.

The ENMU men’s squad finished 4th with a score of 91. South Plains College took first place with a score of 18, followed by West Texas A&M (57) and Texas Tech (64).

Hunter Harris was ENMU’s top finisher in the men’s race, completing the 5-mile run in 29:32.7 for a 12th place finish. Juan Castanon took 17th with a time of 31:15.1.

The ENMU cross country teams travel to Plainview, Texas on Sept. 19 to compete at Wayland Baptist.
