WOMEN'S TENNIS
(LSC TOURNAMENT, #3 DOUBLES TITLE)

The Eastern women’s tennis team competed at the Lone Star Conference singles and doubles championships, hosted by Midwestern State Univ-ersity, Sept. 24-26. The Zias were led by Sarah Pennington and Dena Boans, who won the #3 doubles title.

Pennington and Boans defeated Candace Barnett and Bonnie Allen of East Central in the first round, 6-2, 6-0, then moved past Emily Hufnagle and Jill Mosco, 7-6, 6-2 in the semifinals. They edged past Jenny Wallace and April Connell of Abilene Christian in the final, winning 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

ENMU’s #1 doubles team of Layla Turner and Julie Stiles reached the title match, before losing to Cristina Portas and Sonja Milas of Northeastern State, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Makenzie McCravey defeated Natalie Peterson of Tarleton State in the consolation final at #4 singles.

UP NEXT FOR THE ZIAS
The Zias do not compete this week. Eastern’s next action is at the Regional Rolex Tournament in Topeka, Kan., Oct. 9-11. ENMU concludes its fall schedule with dual matches at West Texas A&M on Oct. 23 and at Cameron on Oct. 24. Both matches will be played in Canyon, Texas.
