TOP-SEEDED ACU DEFEATS ZIAS AT LSC TOURNEY ACU, seeded first for the LSC Tournament, advanced to the championship match on Saturday (Apr. 24) against Northeastern State (Okla.), which defeated Central Oklahoma, 5-3, in the other semifinal. ENMU, seeded fourth, will take on UCO in the third place match. The original schedule for Apr. 23 was changed due to rain. The four quarterfinal matches were canceled, with the top four seeds playing each other in the semifinals. ENMU was originally scheduled to play Cameron University in a quarterfinal match. ACU built a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles flights. Eastern’s #1 doubles team of freshman Layla Turner (Casa Grande, AZ/Case Grande Union H.S.) and junior Julie Stiles (Roswell, NM/Goddard H.S.) were defeated by Julie Mavity and Kasey Hawkins by the slimmest of margins, 9-8 (7-3 tie-breaker). Charli Jones and Lacey Jordan won #2 doubles for ACU, 8-2, over Rozlyn Gorski (Sr., El Paso, TX/ Coronado H.S.) and Makenzie McCravey (Fr., Eldorado, TX/Eldorado H.S.). ACU’s #3 doubles team of Andi Wildner and Leah Ticer was also victorious, defeating Sarah Pennington (Fr., Sweetwater, TX/ Sweetwater H.S.) and Dena Boans (Sr., Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.), 8-2. Jones defeated Stiles, 6-3, 6-1 at #2 singles and Jordan downed Gorski, 6-0, 6-2 at #3 singles to clinch the match for ACU. The remaining four singles flights were not completed. ENMU enters Saturday’s third place match with a 19-7 overall dual match record. |
