EASTERN NEW MEXICO SOFTBALL TEAM ANNOUNCES FIRST SIGNING OF 1999
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University head softball coach Kathleen Rodriguez has announced the signing of a student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent.

ENMU, which recently completed its third season of intercollegiate competition in softball, is a member of the Lone Star Conference, which currently includes 17 colleges and universities in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Rodriguez just completed her first season as head coach of the Zias.

Jacquelyn “Dawn” Hunt — Pitcher/Utility, 5’3”, Carlsbad High School (Carlsbad H.S.) Hunt is a key player on Carlsbad’s softball team, which is a strong contender for the State Tournament.

In 1998, she helped lead Carlsbad to the New Mexico State AAAA Championship game. She pitched every inning in the title game, which lasted 9 innings before Carlsbad was defeated.

Hunt earned an 11-3 record and 0.49 ERA in 1998, while striking out 81 batters and walking just 12 in 85 innings pitched. She gave up only 6 earned runs during the season.

Hunt was named First Team All-District in 1997 and 1998. She also earned All-Academic Team honors in softball (1996, 1997, 1998) and volleyball (996 and 1997). She is a National Honor Society member, and has taken several advanced or accelerated classes at Carlsbad H.S.
