ZIAS DEFEATED BY NATIONAL POWERS NORTHEASTERN STATE AND CENTRAL OKLAHOMA The Zias were defeated by 6th-ranked Northeastern State (Okla.), 5-3, and lost to 10th-ranked Central Oklahoma, 5-1. ENMU fell to 17-6 on the season. The Zias almost upset Northeastern State. ENMU lost #1 doubles and #3 doubles in tie-breakers. If the Zias had won those two matches, ENMU would have downed the Lady Reds, 5-3. In the #1 doubles flight, Northeastern State’s Sanja Milas and Zdena Rebekova edged Layla Turner (Fr., Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union H.S.) and Julie Stiles (Jr., Roswell, NM/Goddard H.S) of ENMU, 9-8, including a 7-2 win in the tie-breaker. The Lady Reds also slipped past the Zias at #3 doubles, with Katarina Djuric and Jill Mosco defeating Eastern’s team of Sarah Pennington (Fr., Sweetwater, TX/Sweetwater H.S.) and Dena Boans (Sr., Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.), 9-8. Djuric and Mosco won a lengthy tie-breaker, 11-9. Rozlyn Gorski (Sr., El Paso, TX/Coronado H.S.) and Makenzie McCravey (Fr., Eldorado, TX/ Eldorado H.S.) of ENMU defeated Emily Hufnagel and Jennifer McKenzie at #2 doubles, 8-4. Makenzie also defeated Hufnagel at #4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-2. Turner, ranked #27 nationally in singles, won #1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Rebekova, who entered the match ranked #16. In the Zias’ match with UCO, the Bronchos won 2 of 3 doubles flights to gain an early advantage. Pennington and Boans won #3 doubles for ENMU, defeating Leticia Lozada and Jill Woodard, 8-6. Central Oklahoma clinched the team victory by winning three singles flights. Michaela Perlikova defeated Stiles, 6-2, 6-2, at #2 singles, Sharon Louver downed McCravey at #4 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Jill Woodard defeated Boans, 6-4, 6-1 at #6 singles. Friday,
