EASTERN NEW MEXICO VOLLEYBALL TEAM ADDS SCHOLAR-ATHLETE FROM AMERICAN
SAMOA
PORTALES,
NM — Eastern New Mexico University head volleyball coach Mike Maguire
has announced that Christabell Mariner, a freshman from American Samoa,
signed a National Letter of Intent on June 22. She will be a freshman
during the 1999 season.
Maguire
guided the Zias to a 23-10 overall record and a 9-3 mark (2nd place)
in the Lone Star Conference South Division in 1998. He begins his 13th
season at Eastern New Mexico this fall.

Tafuna High School in Pago Pago, American Samoa
Mariner was
a quality student-athlete at Tafuna High School in American Samoa the
past two seasons. She was her Class Valedictorian and received Highest
Achievement honors in several course disciplines. She was the Most Valuable
Female Player in Samoa as a junior, and was named to the All-Star Roster
as a junior and a senior. Including
two years at Samoana High School, she was a four-year volleyball player
at middle blocker and outside hitter during high school. Mariner earned
a 4.0 GPA in high school.
