LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN DEFEATS ENMU, 66-46
PORTALES, NM — Lubbock Christian University received 23 points and 10 rebounds from junior forward James Omondi, as the Chaparrals defeated Eastern New Mexico University, 66-46, Dec. 11 at Greyhound Arena. LCU improved to 6-1 with the victory, while ENMU dropped to 3-6.

Omondi, who scored 15 points as LCU built a 25-18 first half lead, converted 10 of 20 field goals during the game for the Chaparrals. His 23 points were supported by 13 points from Benton Buckley and 11 points from Rick Henderson. The Chaparrals shot 44.1% for the game (26 of 59), including 55.6% (15 of 27) in the second half.

The Chaps led 6-0 in the first two-and-a-half minutes and never trailed in the first half. ENMU got as close as two points, 20-18, with 3:52 remaining in the half — on two free throws by freshman forward Keenan Browder (Gary, IN/Bishop Noll Institute) — but the Greyhounds trailed by seven at the break.

Lubbock Christian led by just six points, 42-36, with 11:05 remaining, after Brandon Ridenour (Jr., G, Lovington, NM/New Mexico J.C.) of ENMU sank a pair of free throws. The Chaparrals answered with a 13-0 run that gave them a 54-36 lead and command of the game with 7:26 left. The offensive surge began and ended with a 3-pointer by Henderson.

Ridenour topped ENMU with 16 points, including 5 of 5 at the free throw line. Cord Wilburn (Sr., G, Artesia, NM/Otero J.C.) added 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting, and led the Greyhounds with 7 rebounds. Freshmen Torry Peoples (G, Hobbs, NM/Hobbs H.S.) and Browder each scored 6 points.

The Greyhounds sank 10 of 11 free throws, but shot just 32.7% (16 of 49) from the field. ENMU connected on just 7 of 25 shots (25.0%) in the first half. LCU also benefited from a 40-28 rebounding edge.

Eastern New Mexico does not play again until Fri., Dec. 17, when they travel to Plainview, Texas to play Wayland Baptist University. Tipoff at WBU is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (MST).
