OUACHITA BAPTIST DOWNS EASTERN NEW MEXICO
Unbeaten at 5-0; Zias (5-1) Lose for 1st Time

ARKADELPHIA, AR — Ouachita Baptist University shot 57.9% in the first half to take a 38-13 lead over Eastern New Mexico University on its way to a 60-40 triumph over the Zias, on Sat., Dec. 4. Both teams entered the game undefeated, but OBU improved to 5-0, while ENMU dropped to 5-1.

The Lady Tigers connected on 11 of 19 shots in the first half. OBU also limited ENMU to just 17.2% shooting (5 of 29) during the first 20 minutes.

Eastern played much stronger in the second half, shooting 32.0% (8 of 25) and holding the Lady Tigers to 21.1% (4 of 19). The Zias converted 10 of 10 second half free throws, and outscored OBU, 27-22, over the final 20 minutes.

Even so, Ouachita Baptist, bolstered by its large first half lead, sank 13 of 14 second half free throws to secure the win. Jamie Scheppmann of Ouachita Baptist led all players with 18 points on 5 of 6 field goals (2 of 2 on three-pointers) and 6 of 7 free throws.

Robyn Anders added 13 points — including 11 of 12 charity shots — for the Lady Tigers. OBU’s Tracy McBryde was the game’s top rebounder with 8 caroms.

For ENMU, junior post Katheryne Hickman (San Antonio, TX/Castle Hills Baptist H.S.) scored 12 points. She grabbed 7 rebounds and was 6 of 6 at the line. Bobbie Wallin (Jr., Post, Moriarty, NM/Moriarty H.S.) provided the Zias with 9 points and 3 rebounds.

Ouachita Baptist shot 39.5% (15 of 38) for the game and made 27 of 32 free throws (84.4%). The Zias’ finished 13 of 54 from the field (24.1%) and 13 of 18 at the line (72.2%).

ENMU will return to Portales, N.M. on Sunday, but the Zias will hit the road again later in the week. The Zias are scheduled to play at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thur., Dec. 9 at 6:00 p.m. (MST), then take on Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. on Sat., Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. (MST).
