GARY ROBBINS TO THROW OUT FIRST PITCH AT ENMU BASEBALL SEASON OPENER
PORTALES, NM — Gary Robbins, an Eastern New Mexico University alumnus and long- time friend of ENMU athletics, will throw out the first pitch at Eastern’s season opener in baseball, Fri., Feb. 5 at Greyhound Field.

The pre-game ceremony will occur just before the start of ENMU’s double-header with Oklahoma Christian University. Robbins, an initiate of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, graduated from ENMU in 1973. He was instrumental in the return of the Greyhound baseball program in 1992.

The revived Eastern program returned to the field 17 years after it was disbanded in 1975. Robbins has continued to support the growth of Greyhound baseball. In addition to throwing out the first pitch, Robbins will be recognized for his his service to ENMU athletics. Pre-game activities are set to begin at 12:55 p.m.

The Greyhounds, who finished the 1998 season with a 22-33 overall record, will play Oklahoma Christian in two 7-inning games on Friday. The teams will also play two 7-inning contests on Sat., Feb. 6.

Eastern then plays seven consecutive road games — including three at the University of New Mexico Feb. 19-21 — before returning to Greyhound Field on Tues., Feb. 23 to face Oklahoma Panhandle State. Head Coach Phil Clabaugh enters his 8th season since starting Eastern’s revived program. He has an overall record of 172-202 (.460) at ENMU .
