STATE DEFEATS GREYHOUNDS ASU built a 42-37 halftime lead, then opened the second half with a 15-5 run. The Rams led 57-42 with 15:18 remaining in the game. Morris and Smith led four ASU players in double figures. Smith sank 11 of 19 shots from the field and was 8 of 8 at the line. Smith was 7 of 11 on field goals (3 of 4 three-pointers) and recorded 6 assists. Terry Murray added 15 points and 7 rebounds, while Cameron Henderson scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Rams. ASU’s win avenged a 103-95 loss at ENMU on Jan. 9. ENMU rallied to within eight points, 78-70, on a 3-pointer by junior guard Brandon Ridenour (6’3”, Lovington, NM/New Mexico J.C.) with 3:47 left. The Greyhounds also cut the deficit to eight points, 87-79, on two free throws by senior center Byrone Williams (6’6”, Chicago, IL/Alaska- Anchorage) with 1:06 remaining. Eastern’s top scorer was senior forward Deron Rippey (6’4”, Brooklyn, NY/East Carolina University), who scored 22 points and provided 4 assists. He has scored at least 19 points in 12 consecutive games for the Greyhounds. Also in double figures for ENMU were junior guard James Franklin (5’11”, Houston,TX/ Trinidad State J.C.), senior center Craig Ferris (6’6”, Ethete, WY/Casper College) and Ridenour. Franklin hit the nets for 17 points, while adding 7 assists and 7 steals. Ferris supplied 13 points and Ridenour scored 10 points to go with 4 assists and 2 steals. ENMU plays again on Sat., Feb. 13 in an LSC game at Abilene Christian University. Game time between the Greyhounds and the Wildcats is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (MST). |
