ENMU TO PLAY INAUGURAL GAMES
AT ZIA SOFTBALL FIELD

PORTALES, NM — The inaugural games at Zia Softball Field will be played by the Eastern New Mexico University softball team on Saturday, February 20 when the Zias host Oklahoma Panhandle State University in a double-header at 12:00 noon. The games will be preceded by a tailgate party sponsored by Bench Club, in the Greyhound Arena parking lot starting at 11:00 a.m.

The double-header will feature a ceremonial first pitch by ENMU Board of Regents member Jessica Allsup.

When the games get underway, ENMU will be out to avenge an 8-6 loss to Panhandle State in the Southern Colorado Tournament, Feb. 12. Eastern overcame the loss and reached the semifinals of the tournament before losing to eventual champion Tarleton State.

With the start of ENMU’s home schedule, the Athletic Department and University Police want to remind everyone of the rules for parking near Zia Softball Field:

  • Parking is not allowed on any part of North Ave. M, which runs behind center field and right field.
  • Parking is not allowed on the South side of Beach Street, which separates the new field from the Greyhound Arena parking lot. The curb has been painted yellow to indicate the “No Parking” zone.
  • An area of handicapped parking, painted light blue, is available on the North side of Beach Street, adjacent to the field. There is also an area of legal parking on the North side of Beach Street.
  • Parking on university grass is prohibited. The largest parking area for home Zia softball games is the Greyhound Arena parking lot. The arena lot offers plenty of parking and is just a short walk from Zia Softball Field. All fans attending games are encouraged to use the arena lot.
