BRANDI BATES NAMED
LSC SOUTH DIVISION PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore guard/forward Brandi Bates (5’8”, Plainview, TX/Plainview H.S.) has been named Lone Star Conference women’s basketball South Division Player-of-the-Week for the week ending Jan. 10. Bates helped the Zias go 2-0 during the week to take over sole possession of first place in the LSC South at 3-0. ENMU improved to 9-3 on the season.

Bates averaged 13.5 points and 9.0 rebounds during the week, as ENMU defeated Abilene Christian, 70-67, and downed Angelo State, 76-46. Bates scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds against Abilene Christian, then added 16 points and 10 rebounds against Angelo State. She came off the bench in both games, and averaged 25 minutes per game.

Bates converted 9 of 19 field goals (47.4%) and made 8 of 12 free throws. She also earned 6 assists, recorded 6 steals, and blocked 1 shot. She helped the Zias limit Angelo State to just 46 points, as ENMU held an opponent to less than 60 points for the 6th time in 12 games this season.

Eastern New Mexico has won 5 of its last 6 games. The Zias opened Conference play with a 3-game homestand that also included a 63-58 victory over West Texas A&M on Jan. 2. Eastern plays its next 5 games — all LSC contests — on the road. ENMU plays at Tarleton State on Jan. 14, at Texas Woman’s University on Jan. 15, at Midwestern State on Jan. 16, at Texas A&M- Kingsville on Jan. 21 and at Texas A&M-Commerce on Jan. 23.
