EASTERN NEW MEXICO ROUTS ANGELO STATE, 76-46
PORTALES, NM — Sophomore guard/forward Brandi Bates (5’8”, Plainview, TX/Plainview H.S.) scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, leading three Eastern New Mexico University players in double figures, as the Zias routed Angelo State University, 76-46, at Greyhound Arena. The win moved ENMU into sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference South Division at 3-0 and upped the Zias’ overall record to 9-3. ENMU has won three games in a row and 5 of its last 6. Angelo State fell to 3-9 overall and 0-3 in the LSC South.

Eastern New Mexico scored the first 12 points of the game and led 20-4 with 11:41 remaining in the first half. The Zias led 36-18 at the half, and increased their lead to 28 points, 53-25, with 10:27 remaining.

Bates was joined in double figures by sophomore post Bobbie Wallin (6’1”, Moriarty, NM/ Moriarty H.S.), who scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, and by junior guard/forward Sharon Max (6’0”, Kirtland, NM/Kirtland H.S.), who added 10 points. ENMU shots 41.5% for the game, while limiting ASU to just 27.1% field goal shooting.

The leading scorer for the Rambelles was Katrina Polnick with 13 points. Polnick also recorded 7 rebounds and earned 2 steals. Kandace Etheredge contributed 8 rebounds for Angelo State, which finished with a 45-44 rebounding edge.

Eastern plays its next five games on the road — all in the Lone Star Conference. The Zias travel to Tarleton State on Jan. 14, Texas Woman’s University on Jan. 15, Midwestern State on Jan. 16, Texas A&M-Kingsville on Jan. 21 and Texas A&M-commerce on Jan. 23. ENMU’s next home game is Jan. 27 against Oklahoma Panhandle State (5:30 p.m. MST).
