PAT GARRITY TO BE GUEST SPEAKER AT TERRY TYLER INDIVIDUAL BASKETBALL CAMP
Former Notre Dame Star and Phoenix Suns Player
to Highlight Event

PORTALES, NM — Phoenix Suns forward Pat Garrity, who joined the Suns this past season after graduating from the University of Notre Dame, will be the guest speaker at the Terry Tyler Individual Youth Basketball Camp, July 8-9 at Eastern New Mexico University’s Greyhound Arena.

The camp is set for 9:00 a.m. through 12:00 noon both days. Tyler, camp director and head men’s basketball coach at ENMU, is providing the camp for boys and girls who will be entering the third grade through the seventh grade this fall.

Garrity will speak and sign autographs during the first day of the camp (July 8).

Tyler coached Garrity for three seasons while he was an assistant coach at Notre Dame. Garrity, 6’9” and 238 pounds, shot 50.0% from the floor (85 of 170), including 38.9% from three-point range (7 of 18) in 1998-99. He played in 38 games (9 starts), and averaged 5.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. He played in three games against the Portland Trailblazers in the NBA Playoffs, and hit 9 of 17 field goals (52.9%) while connecting on 3 of 3 three-point shots and 6 of 6 free throw attempts. He averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 17.3 minutes played per game during the playoffs.

Prior to joining the Suns, Garrity had an oustanding college career at Notre Dame. He played all four seasons with the Irish, and was named Second Team All-America by the Associated Press as a senior in 1997-98. He was also named Third Team All-America by Basketball Weekly, and was a First Team All-Big East Conference selection. He led the Big East in scoring in 1997-98 with 23.2 points per game, while leading the Irish in rebounding with 8.3 boards per game.

Garrity started all 111 games during his four years at Notre Dame. He finished his career with 2,085 points to rank 3rd all-time at Notre Dame. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1998 with a 3.7 grade point average and a major in Science/Pre-Medicine.

The cost of the Terry Tyler Individual Youth Basketball Camp is $50 per camper. Each camper will receive a t-shirt, and there will be a pizza party on the final day. Parents who want to register their children for the camp should call Coach Tyler at (505) 562-2433.
