EIGHT ZIAS RECOGNIZED
ON LSC COMMISSIONER’S HONOR ROLL

PORTALES, NM — Eight members of the Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball team have been named to the Lone Star Conference South Division Commissioner’s Honor Roll for academic achievement.

The eight Zias are sophomore post Breanne Baker, sophomore guard/forward Brandi Bates, sophomore guard Jennifer Dvorak, sophomore guard Lenni Hartley, sophomore post/forward Katheryne Hickman, junior guard/forward Sharon Max, senior guard/forward Bria Norris, and sophomore post Bobbie Wallin.

Baker has a 3.76 grade point average and is majoring in Early Childhood Development. She played in all 27 games in 1998-99, earning 15 assists and recording 16 steals.

Bates owns a 3.64 GPA and is working toward a major in Accounting. She averaged 5.5 points per game this season, while leading the team with 12 blocked shots. Bates provided 42 assists, earned 33 steals and shot 77.6% at the foul line (38 of 49).

Dvorak has a 3.22 GPA and is undecided regarding a major. She saw action in every game, and completed the year with 30 assists and 23 steals. She made 5 of 12 three-point shots (41.7%).

Hartley has achieved a 3.21 GPA while majoring in Communications. She played in 23 games in 1998-99. Hartley averaged 1.7 rebounds per game and had 18 assists. Hickman possesses a 3.58 GPA at ENMU. She is majoring in Communications.

Hickman finished second on the team with 11.1 points per game this year. She played in every game and converted 50.0% of her shots (112 of 224). She connected on a team-high 79.1% of her free throw attempts (68 of 86). Hickman averaged 4.2 rebounds per game.

Max owns a 3.35 GPA and is majoring in Education. She led the Zias with 42 three-pointers and sank 35.3% of her shots from three-point range (42 of 119). She shot 78.8% at the charity stripe, converting 26 of 33 attempts. She averaged 9.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

Norris has earned a 3.87 GPA at ENMU. She is majoring in English. Norris averaged 7.0 points per game, sank 15 three-pointers and totaled 42 steals. She added 3.2 rebounds per game.

Wallin has achieved a 3.57 GPA while majoring in Health. She led the Zias with 6.7 rebounds per game this season. She also started every contest and scored 8.6 points per game.

ENMU qualified for the LSC Tournament and fell to North Division co-champion East Central (Okla.), 68-64, in the first round. The Zias finished the season with a 15-12 overall record, the 15th season at .500 or better for Head Coach Wayne Moore in 19 years at ENMU.

Athletes with a 3.2 grade point average and at least 24 semester hours at an LSC member institution were eligible for the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. ENMU led the South Division in Honor Roll selections in women’s basketball. Texas Woman’s University was second with five selections.
