EASTERN NEW MEXICO TENNIS TEAM ROUTS TEXAS WOMAN’S AND FORT HAYS STATE
PORTALES, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University women’s tennis team, ranked #25 in NCAA Division II, routed Texas Woman’s University and Fort Hays State, shutting out both teams 9-0, in matches played at the Zia Tennis Complex on Sat., Mar. 20.

Texas Woman’s defeated Fort Hays State, 5-4, in the day’s other match. The pair of victories improved ENMU to 15-4 on the year. Texas Woman’s and Fort Hays State both finished the day with 4-3 overall records.

Eastern’s #2 doubles team of senior Rozlyn Gorski (El Paso, TX/Coronado H.S.) and freshman Makenzie McCravey (Eldorado, TX/Eldorado H.S.) did not lose a game in either match. They swept Natalie Foster and Vanessa Araujo of Texas Woman’s, 8-0, in the first match, then defeated Robin Horan and McKinley Quarles of Fort Hays State, 8-0, in the second match.

ENMU’s top-ranked freshman Layla Turner (Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union H.S.), ranked #53 in NCAA Division II in singles, easily won both of her matches at #1 singles. She quickly moved past Araujo of TWU, 6-2, 6-0, and also defeated Shana Irish of FHSU, 6-1, 6-1. Turner is now 23-6 for the year, including 14-3 this spring.

The Zias are off until Fri., April 9, when they host Tarleton State University in a Lone Star Conference match. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. (MST) at the Zia Tennis Complex.
