LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN DOWNS ENMU, 7-3 AND 9-6
Loren Wood Hits 2 Homers for Greyhounds,
Both in 2nd Game

LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Christian University rallied from a 6-4 deficit to take a 9-6 victory in the second game of a double-header Mar. 21 at Hays Field, allowing the Chaparrals to sweep Eastern New Mexico University. LCU built a 5-0 lead in the first game on its way to a 7-3 triumph. The pair of wins upped LCU’s overall record to 27-6. ENMU dropped to 12-18.

ENMU senior shortstop Loren Wood (Everett, WA/Skajit Valley C.C.) hit two home runs for the Greyhounds during the second game. He took over the ENMU home run lead with the pair of four-baggers, and has 7 homers on the season.

Junior outfielder Gabe Flores led the way for the Chaparrals in the first game. He went 3 for 3 at the plate, scored 3 runs and recorded 2 RBIs. Two of his hits were triples.

LCU scored once in the second inning, three times in the third and once in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. ENMU answered with 2 runs in the top of the fifth inning, as junior designated hitter Matt Masiarek (Brisbane, Australia/Lamar C.C.) doubled and scored and sophomore left fielder Chris Stewart (Albuquerque, NM/Manzano H.S.) singled and scored.

The Chaparrals scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take control of the game. Junior first baseman Jeff Thibodeaux (Apple Valley, CA/Victor Valley College) was the only Greyhound with more than one hit in the opener. He went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

The Greyhounds began the second game by scoring three runs in the opening frame. Wood belted his first homer of the game during the inning. Junior catcher Jeromy Neumann (Vixalia, CA/ Victor Valley College), who doubled earlier in the inning, scored on the play. ENMU’s other run scored on a sacrifice fly by senior center fielder Sam George (Eau Claire, WI/N.M. Military Institute).

Lubbock Christian took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the bottom of the third stanza.

ENMU moved back in front, 6-4, with three runs in the fifth inning. All three runs scored on Wood’s second homer of the game, a powerful blast to center field.

LCU tied the game at 6-6 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth, then took the lead for good with three runs in the sixth. Junior outfielder Travis Arase and freshman third baseman Steven Leist opened the sixth inning with back-to-back doubles. Both scored during the inning.

Relief pitcher Britt Carmichael (1-0), who recorded his 6th save of the season in the opener, picked up the win in the second game.

ENMU starter Luz Leal, Jr. (Fr., Laredo, TX/Alexander Magnet School) took the loss, falling to 3-3 on the season.
