ENMU SWEEPS DOUBLE-HEADER FROM ACU
Zias Rally from 3 Runs Down in 8th Inning of Second Game

PORTALES, NMSuzy Seitzinger (So, P/LF, Bloomfield, NM/Bloomfield H.S.) hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring first baseman Rachel Mohler (Fr, Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.) with the winning run, as Eastern New Mexico University overcame a 9-6 deficit in the 8th inning to take a 10-9 victory over Abilene Christian University in the second game of a double-header, Mar. 27 at Zia Softball Field.

The Zias won the first game, 7-5. Eastern New Mexico improved to 11-14 overall and 3-1 in the Lone Star Conference South Division. Abilene Christian dropped to 14-10, 1-3 in the LSC South.

Seitzinger’s sacrifice fly ended a dramatic comeback for the Zias. ENMU trailed 6-4 heading into the bottom of the 7th, but scored twice to force an extra inning. The Zias fell behind 9-6 in the top of the 8th, but responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to earn the victory.

Mohler played a key role in the game. In addition to scoring the winning run, she hit a solo homer in the 4th inning. She was 4 for 5 in the game, with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs.

Other top hitters in the game were junior second baseman Enida Rosales (Glendale, AZ/ South Mountain College) and sophomore shortstop Sarah Rempp (Greeley, CO/Central H.S.). Rosales scored the tying run in the 7th on an error by the third baseman, and concluded the game with 2 hits in 5 at bats. Rempp was 2 for 3 with a 2-run homer.

ENMU built a 5-0 lead in the first game. ACU scored twice in the 5th to cut the deficit to 5-2, but Eastern answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. ACU pulled within 7-5 by adding 3 runs in the 6th.

ENMU relief pitcher Jennifer Harrer (So., Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian H.S.), who entered the game in the 6th, kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard in the 7th inning to earn her first save of the season.

Kim Paschall (So., CF, Midland, TX/Midland H.S.) was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Eastern in the first game. Adrienne Conner (Jr., RF/P, Prescott, AZ/Glendale College) went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

The Zias return to action on Fri., Apr. 2 and Sat., Apr. 3, when they take on Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. Both LSC double-headers will start at 1:00 p.m. (MST).
