RACHEL MOHLER NAMED
LSC SOUTH DIVISION HITTER-OF-THE-WEEK

PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University freshman first baseman Rachel Mohler (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Softball Hitter-of-the-Week for the week ending Mar. 28.

Mohler earned a .500 batting average during the week by recording 7 hits in 14 at bats. She hit a double and 2 home runs. Mohler helped ENMU win three of four games against Abilene Christian University to take an early lead in the LSC South Division race.

The Zias split a double-header with the Wildcats on Fri., Mar. 26, losing the opener 4-0 and winning the second game 3-2. On Sat., Mar. 27, ENMU swept the Wildcats, taking the first game 7-5 and rallying twice in the late innings for a 10-9 win (8 innings) in the second game.

In Friday’s win, Mohler smacked a two-run homer in the 5th inning to record the game-winning hit in Eastern’s one-run victory. In the final game of the series, she blasted a solo home run in the fourth inning, then drove in the first of ENMU’s two runs in the seventh inning with a single, helping the Zias tie the game 6-6 and force an extra inning.

Mohler was also involved in the Zias’ 4-run eighth inning that won the game after ACU built a 9-6 lead in the top of the inning. Mohler singled to left field to bring home ENMU’s third run, then scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly. She was 4 for 5 in the game, with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs.

Over the four-game series, she drove in 6 runs and scored 3 times. She powered her way to a 1.000 slugging percentage and played solid defense, recording 33 putouts, 3 assists and just one error at first base (.973 fielding).

Mohler is Eastern’s top hitter this season. For the year, she owns a .469 batting average (38 of 81) and has provided 21 runs and 24 RBIs. She leads the squad with 15 extra-base hits, including team highs for doubles (7), triples (2) and home runs (6). Her 155 putouts on defense also lead the Zias.
