KATIE ELLSWORTH NAMED TO LSC ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Kim Paschall, Sarah Rempp, Erica Sussex Are Honor Roll Selections

PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University softball player Katie Ellsworth, a junior right fielder from Albuquerque, NM (Cibola H.S.) has been named to the 1999 Lone Star Conference Academic All-Conference South Division Team, as selected by the LSC’s sports information directors. Ellsworth was one of just 10 players chosen to the South Division team.

ENMU placed three additional softball players on the 1999 LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. They were center fielder Kim Paschall (So., Midland, TX/Midland H.S.), catcher Erica Sussex (So., Bloomfield, NM/Bloomfield H.S.) and shortstop Sarah Rempp (So., Greeley,CO/Central H.S.).

Student-athletes with at least a 3.2 grade point average and 24 or more semester hours at an LSC member institution were eligible for the LSC Academic All-Conference Team. All nominees who were not selected were named to the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Ellsworth, a Religion and Psychology major, earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average over the past two semesters at ENMU. This spring, she achieved a .238 batting average. She was often used as the ENMU’s “defense only” player, providing support in the outfield, but not batting in the team’s lineup. In her plate appearances, she hit 2 doubles, drove in 2 runs and scored 2 runs for the Zias.

Paschall, who was named Second Team All-LSC for her on-the-field efforts, is majoring in Marketing. She achieved a 3.79 GPA over the past two semesters. She started 39 of 41 games, and produced a .370 batting average, with 4 doubles and 2 triples. She stole 10 bases on 12 attempts. Paschall was second on the ENMU squad with 50 hits and 24 runs scored.

Rempp, also a Second Team All-LSC selection, earned a 3.61 GPA during the past two semesters. She is majoring in Education. Rempp earned a .324 batting average, hit 7 doubles and blasted 3 home runs. She finished second on the team with 23 RBIs.

Sussex is majoring in Chemistry and has a 3.31 cumulative GPA. She was one of just two Zias to start all 41 games during the 1999 season. She hit .263, with 13 runs scored, 11 RBIs and 5 doubles. Sussex led the team with 13 walks. She was 5 for 5 on stolen bases.
