ALLSUPS/ENMU PORTALES PAVEMENT POUNDER CHOOSES NEW LOGO
PORTALES, NM — Allsups convenience stores and Eastern New Mexico University are beginning preparations for the 1999 Portales Pavement Pounder, which will have a new look this year with a logo designed by ENMU student and graphic artist David Jett. The previous logo has been used since the inception of the race nearly 25 years ago.

ALLSUPS/ENMU Portales Pavement Pounder Logo"I thought all the entries were very impressive," said Allsups Advertising Coordinator Shannon Dockter. "We love the fact that the chosen artwork brings a new contemporary look, while still staying with the tradition of an event that is 25 years old."

The contest for the design of the logo spanned over several months, and was open to all ENMU students, staff and faculty. First prize was a grand $250 cash and $100 in phone cards. Consolation prizes of $10 in free gas, $10 in free merchandise, and $5 phone cards were awarded to those whose logos were not chosen. Prizes were sponsored by Allsups.

There were 11 entries, and Jett created the winning design. "I was glad to be a part of the contest and honored that my design was chosen," said Jett.

Plans include using the new logo for many years to come. "The Portales Pavement Pounder logo is printed on everything from entry forms to T-shirts - almost all printed materials associated with the race," ENMU Athletics Events Manager Jennifer Poyer said. "I think [Jett] created a great design that fits well with the race and its tradition."
