CENTER FIELDER KIM PASCHALL NAMED TO GTE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT SOFTBALL TEAM
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore center fielder Kim Paschall (Midland, TX/Midland High School) has been named to the 1999 GTE Academic All-District VI College Division Softball Team, as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Paschall and 10 other players named to the First Team are eligible for the GTE Academic All-America College Division Softball Team, which will be announced in June. The College Division includes players at NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges and universities. ENMU competes in NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference. District VI of CoSIDA includes colleges and universities in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas.

Players nominated for the GTE Academic All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative grade point averages of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player had to be at her current college or university for at least one full academic year.

Paschall has a 3.73 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Marketing at Eastern. She was named to the ENMU Athletic Honor Roll during all three semesters prior to the 1999 season. Paschall finished the year with a .370 batting average. She recorded 50 hits in 135 at bats, while scoring 24 runs and earning 11 RBIs. She was 10 of 12 on stolen bases, and hit 4 doubles and 2 triples.

She was an exceptional outfielder, recording 67 putouts and 8 assists with just 3 errors (.962 fielding percentage). She has a .355 career batting average in two seasons at ENMU.

Paschall was named First Team All-LSC South Division in 1998 and was a Second Team All-LSC selection in 1999. She is 22 of 27 on career stolen base attempts.

ENMU finished the 1999 season — the Zias’ third year of intercollegiate competition — with a 14-27 overall record and a 5-11 mark in the LSC South (4th place). The Zias battled until the final weekend of the regular season for one of two South Division berths into the LSC Postseason Tournament.
