PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University senior catcher Slubby Bennalley (Kirtland, NM/College of Southern Idaho) has been named to the 1999 All-Lone Star Conference South Division First Team as selected by the LSC head baseball coaches. Bennalley and Tarleton State catcher Ben Sartor tied for First Team honors. A total of 17 players were named to the All-LSC South First Team.

The Greyhounds also placed three players on the All-LSC South Second Team. ENMU’s Second Team choices were senior shortstop Loren Wood (Everett, WA/Skajit Valley C.C.), senior center fielder Sam George (Eau Claire, WI/N.M. Military Institute) and junior right-handed pitcher Greg Stimack (Lakewood, CO/J.K. Mullen H.S.)

Bennalley hit .364 for the Greyhounds this season, with 48 hits in 132 at bats. He scored 21 runs, recorded 27 RBIs and hit 7 doubles. He threw out 14 of 40 base stealers during the season, and achieved a .963 fielding percentage. He earned 171 putouts and 40 assists with just 8 errors. He achieved a .366 career batting average at Eastern (82 of 224), including a .370 batting average his junior year. He hit 13 career doubles.

Wood led the 1999 Greyhounds with a .402 batting average. He pounded 11 home runs, finishing just one short of the ENMU record. He set school records for runs scored in a season (59) and total bases in a season (131). He tied another school record with 7 triples. In LSC South Division games, Wood achieved a .449 batting average and scored 20 runs in 16 games. He had a career .389 batting average at ENMU, with 144 hits in 370 at bats, plus 28 doubles, 10 triples, 18 home runs, 96 runs scored and 98 RBIs.

George also provided offensive power for the Greyhounds this year. He achieved a .397 batting average, with 9 homers, 2 triples and 14 doubles. George earned a .376 career batting average in two seasons with the Greyhounds. He recorded 123 career hits, while scoring 92 runs and driving in 75 runs. He struck out 83 batters to set an ENMU single season record — easily breaking the old record (64). Stimack will begin his senior season with 14 career wins (14-10). He needs just 5 more wins to tie the ENMU career record (19) set by Geoff Erwin from 1994-96.
