ENMU ANNOUNCES FOOTBALL CAPTAINS FOR 1999
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University head football coach Harold “Bud” Elliott has announced the Greyhounds’ team captains for the 1999 season. The captains were selected in voting by ENMU football team members. Three players were chosen as team captains and two were chosen as alternates.

The players selected as team captains were middle linebacker Michael Walton (Earth, TX/Texas Tech Univ.), outside linebacker Floyd White (Pampa, TX/Pampa H.S.) and tailback Dennis Beard (Albuquerque, NM/N.M. Mil. Inst.). Walton and White will be seniors and Beard will be a junior this fall.

Named alternate captains were offensive guard Jack Garceau (Cordova, CA/Sacramento City College) and outside linebacker Garett Williams (Panhandle, TX/Monahans H.S.). This fall, Garceau will be a senior and Williams will be a junior.

Walton was named Lone Star Conference South Division Defensive Lineman-of-the-Year for 1998, after leading the LSC with 117 total tackles. He recorded 24 tackles for losses and 7.5 quarterback sacks. Walton, who was selected to four All-America teams last fall, will begin his senior season with 368 career tackles.

White placed second on the team with 87 total tackles in 1998. He had 17 tackles for losses, blocked 2 kicks and tied Walton for the sack lead with 7.5 quarterback sacks.

Beard led the Greyhounds in rushing, with 868 yards on 145 carries. He averaged 6.0 yards per rush and scored 12 touchdowns. He was named Honorable Mention All-LSC South.

Garceau helped the ENMU offense gain 305.8 total yards per game.

The Greyhounds rushed for 212.3 yards per game, and scored 26 rushing touchdowns. Williams recorded 30 total tackles. He registered 5 tackles for losses, and broke up 4 passes, helping ENMU rank 4th in NCAA Division II in total defense (254.8 yds./game).

ENMU finished the 1998 season with an 8-3 overall record. The Greyhounds tied for third place in the LSC South Division with a 6-3 mark. During the season, ENMU was ranked as high as a tie for 11th in the NCAA Division II National Poll.
