ROSIE STALLMAN SELECTED TO SERVE
ON NCAA NATIONAL SOFTBALL COMMITTEE

PORTALES, NM — Rosie Stallman, director of athletics at Eastern New Mexico University, has been selected to serve on the NCAA Division II National Softball Committee. She also has been chosen chairperson of the NCAA South Central Regional Softball Advisory Committee. Stallman will begin her duties immediately, as she prepares for the upcoming softball season.

As a member of the National Softball Committee, Stallman will be involved in the selection of teams for the NCAA Division II National Tournament. She will attend the national finals following regional competition. She will also form and lead the South Central Regional Advisory Committee. Stallman’s first assignment as Regional Chair will be to complete her committee by appointing representatives from the member conferences in the South Central Region.

Those conferences are the Lone Star Conference (LSC), which includes Eastern New Mexico and teams in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) with teams in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and New Mexico, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) with teams in Missouri and Kansas, and the Heart of Texas Conference. Regional committee members are usually some of the most experienced coaches in the NCAA.

The South Central Region Softball Advisory Committee has several duties. Perhaps the most important responsibility is recommending to the National Softball Committee which teams should be selected for the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Each regional committee meets throughout the season to rate the teams in its region. The committee determines a final rating at the end of the regular season, and suggests which teams should be included in the national tournament. The National Softball Committee generally accepts the recommendations of the regional committees. Stallman will serve on the games committee for the South Central Regional in the National Tournament.

Other Regional Committee members may also help with administering the Regional event. All eight Regional Chairpersons will be on hand for the National Finals. Stallman, in her third year at Eastern New Mexico, has developed the ENMU Athletic Department’s relationship with the campus and the local community. She was the first female athletic director hired at a publicly-supported university in the State of New Mexico.

She came to ENMU following three years as athletic director at Texas Wesleyan University. Prior to her years in athletic administration, Stallman was a coach and instructor. She was head softball coach, head volleyball coach and Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Health at Mankato State University (Minn.) from 1982-85. Her 1984 softball team won the MIAWC title, and her 1985 softball team won the NCC championship and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Stallman earned a Master of Science degree in Physical Education/Athletic Administration from St. Cloud State University (Minn.) in 1981. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree, with a major in Physical Education and Health and a minor in Recreation from St. Cloud State in 1974.

She has attended the NACDA Management Institute (1996), participated in NCAA Diversity Training (1996), attended Tom Hopkins Management Training (1991), and been a featured speaker at the NCAA Title IX Seminar (1999).
