THREE ZIAS NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM AT AL KALY SHRINE CLASSIC
PUEBLO, CO — Three members of the Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball team have been named to the Al Kaly Shrine Classic All-Tournament Team, hosted by the University of Southern Colorado, Nov. 19-20. The Zias won the Shrine Classic with a 2-0 record, defeating Hamline University, 67-36, and Southern Colorado, 56-44.

Junior post player Bobbie Wallin (Moriarty, NM/Moriarty H.S.) was chosen MVP of the tournament. She scored 36 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in Eastern’s two games. She connected on 15 of 33 shots (45.5%) and made 10 of 14 free throws. She scored 18 points in each game, and grabbed 11 rebounds against Southern Colorado.

Other All-Tournament selections from ENMU were senior post player Amanda Hewitt (San Antonio, TX/Madison H.S.) and junior guard Jody Avent (Stinnett, TX/South Plains College).

Hewitt scored a total of 13 points and recorded 8 rebounds. She also earned 4 assists and 2 steals. Avent scored 10 points during the tournament (6 of 6 on free throws), while contributing 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals.

The Zias, 2-0 on the season, play their 1999-00 home opener on Sat., Nov. 2 versus Southwestern Oklahoma. Game time at Greyhound Arena is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (MST).
