EASTERN
NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY TO HONOR ALL-DACADE AND ALL CENTURY VOLLEYBALL
TEAMS
PORTALES,
NM Eastern New Mexico University Athletics will honor an
All-Decade Team and an All-Century Team during the Zias’ final 1999
home match on Sat., Nov. 6.
A special
presentation to the honorees will take place between the second and
the third game of ENMU’s Lone Star Conference match against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. (Mountain) at Greyhound Arena on the
ENMU campus.
Sixteen
players were chosen for the All-Century Team and 15 players were named
to the All-Decade Team (1990s). Seven
players were named to both teams, including current ENMU Athletics Events
Manager Jennifer Goble Poyer and current starting setter Lindsey Davison.

Eastern
New Mexico first competed in intercollegiate volleyball in 1976. The
Zias have an all-time record 474-318-2 (.598) over 24 seasons. ENMU
qualified for the NAIA District VII Playoffs in 1981, 1982, 1983 and
1984. The Zias reached the NAIA Bi-District Playoffs in 1984. Eastern
won the Lone Star Conference regular season title in 1991 and 1993,
and claimed the LSC Tournament title in 1993. ENMU continues to compete
in the LSC, and is also a member of NCAA Division II.
Current
Head Volleyball Coach Mike Maguire has coached most of the members of
the All-Century and All-Decade teams. He was an assistant volleyball
coach at ENMU in 1981 and 1984, then returned as head volleyball coach
in 1987. Maguire, in his 13th season as head coach at Eastern, owns
a career record of 267-161 (.624) with the Zias. He had guided ENMU
to seven 20-win seasons since 1991.
