ZIA TENNIS PLAYERS IN MEMPHIS FOR ITA/ROLEX NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore Layla Turner (Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union H.S.) and senior Julie Stiles (Roswell, NM/Goddard H.S.) joined Head Coach Christine Blaeser today to fly to Memphis, Tenn. for the ITA/Rolex NCAA Division II National Tournament. The tournament begins on Oct. 21 and continues through Oct. 24 at the Racquet Club of Memphis and at Rhodes College.

The Rolex National Small College Tennis Championships also include national tournaments for NCAA Division III, the NAIA and junior colleges in the NJCAA. National champions in each division will meet in the Rolex “Super Bowl” to complete the week’s activities.

Turner will compete in singles and will team with Stiles in the doubles bracket. The NCAA Division II portion of the event involves the singles and doubles champions from eight ITA/Rolex Regionals.

Turner won the singles title and Turner and Stiles claimed the doubles championship at the ITA/Rolex Central Regional, Oct. 1-3 in Greeley, Colo. Eastern New Mexico, 1-0 in dual meets this season, finished the 1998-99 season ranked #19 in NCAA Division II. The Zias were 20-9 overall last season.
