FIVE ENMU SOFTBALL PLAYERS EARN NFCA ALL-AMERICA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARDS
PORTALES, NM — Five members of the 1998-99 Eastern New Mexico University softball team have been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athletes.

The players (including year of eligibility in 1998-99) are Jennifer Harrer (So., P/OF, Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian H.S.), Tracy Hooker (Fr., P, Fort Worth, TX/Lawrence D. Bell H.S.), Kim Paschall (So., OF, Midland, TX/Midland H.S.), Enida Rosales (Jr., 2B, Glendale, AZ/South Mountain C.C.) and Katie Ellsworth (Jr., OF, Albuquerque, NM/Cibola H.S.).

The NFCA’s All-America Scholar-Athlete program honors collegiate softball players who have excelled in the classroom. All players receiving the Scholar-Athlete Award must have earned a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale during the past year.

ENMU also ranked 25th among the NFCA’s Top Academic Teams for NCAA Division II in 1998-99. The Zias earned a combined team GPA of 3.122 during the 1998-99 year.

Eastern New Mexico finished the 1998-99 season with a 14-27 record, including a 5-11 mark in the Lone Star Conference South Division. It was ENMU’s third season of intercollegiate competition. It was also the first year for Head Coach Kathleen Rodriguez.
