BOBBY RODRIGUEZ NAMED LSC SOUTH OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University senior quarterback Bobby Rodriguez (6’2”, 205 lbs., Santa Teresa, NM/Las Cruces H.S.) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Rodriguez earned the honor for his efforts in ENMU’s 54-7 victory over New Mexico Highlands University at Greyhound Stadium on Sat., Sept. 11.

Rodriguez played less than three full quarters in the rout. He completed 9 of 14 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns (76 yards and 26 yards). He also carried the ball 15 times for 63 yards.

Overall, Rodriguez gained 289 yards of total offense for the Greyhounds, who improved to 2-0 on the season. ENMU gained 612 yards as a team, finishing 74 yards shy of the school record for total yards in a game (686 vs. Fort Lewis College on Sept. 24, 1988).

The LSC South Offensive Player-of-the-Week award is the third such honor won by Rodriguez in the past two seasons. Last year, he was named Player-of-the-Week for consecutive games, as ENMU opened the season with a 62-3 win over Western New Mexico, then slipped past New Mexico Highlands, 31-30.

In last year’s victory over Highlands, Rodriguez completed 15 of 30 passes for 249 yards, and gained 66 yards on 10 carries. Three of his passes resulted in touchdowns, including a 31-yarder with 0:20 left in the fourth quarter to give ENMU the victory. His other touchdown passes covered 70 yards and 9 yards. He finished the game with 315 yards of total offense.

Through two games this season, Rodriguez is 14 of 24 passing (58.3%) with no interceptions and 296 yards gained. He has thrown 3 touchdown passes, and has run for 73 yards on 19 carries. He leads the LSC in passing efficiency with an impressive 203.2 rating. Eastern New Mexico remains at home this weekend.

The Greyhounds will open Lone Star Conference action on Sat., Sept. 18 with a crossover game against North Division opponent Ouachita Baptist University from Arkadelphia, Ark. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. The game is the first ever meeting between ENMU and OBU in football. Crossover games count in the LSC divisional standings.
