ENMU RANKED #14 IN USAFOOTBALL.COM NCAA DIVISION II POLL
PORTALES, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University football team, currently 2-0 on the season, is ranked #14 in this week’s USAFootball.com NCAA Division II Poll. The Greyhounds defeated Western New Mexico University, 33-13, on Sept. 4 and routed New Mexico Highlands, 54-7, on Sept. 11.

Voters in the USAFootball.com NCAA Division II Poll are sports information directors at NCAA Division II colleges and universities. The first regular season NCAA Division II coaches poll (conducted by the NCAA Division II Football Committee) will be released next week. ENMU was not ranked in the preseason coaches poll.

In this week’s USAFootball.com poll, Carson-Newman College (Tenn.) is ranked #1 with 58 first place votes. The University of Northern Colorado is ranked #2 and has 20 first place votes. The University of Central Oklahoma is ranked #3 with 17 first place votes.

UCO and Eastern New Mexico are the only Lone Star Conference teams ranked in the poll. UCO is the defending LSC champion and competes in the LSC North Division. ENMU tied for third in the LSC South Division in 1998 (8-3 overall, 6-3 LSC). ENMU and Central Oklahoma do not play during the 1999 regular season.

Two other LSC teams received votes in the USAFootball.com poll, but did not make the Top 30. They are Angelo State and Texas A&M University-Kingsville. ENMU hosts Angelo State at Greyhound Stadium on Sat., Oct. 9. The Greyhounds play at TAMU-Kingsville on Sat., Oct. 30.
