ENMU SWEEPS ANGELO STATE, 15-8, 15-1, 15-7 ENMU is tied with West Texas A&M for first place in the LSC South Division. Angelo State fell to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the LSC South. Eastern New Mexico struggled early in the first game and trailed 8-5. The Zias scored the next four points using just one serving opportunity, and finished the first game with a 10-0 run. The Zias controlled the final two games to complete the sweep in 1 hour, 24 minutes. Five Zias finished the match with 6 or more digs. Junior outside hitter Tanya Heyko (Salem, OR/Chemeketa H.S.) led ENMU with 8 digs and a .412 hitting percentage. She also earned 12 digs, including 8 in the first game. Senior middle blocker Maricela Santos (Laredo, TX/Laredo C.C.) added 7 digs and 3 block assists. Senior right-side hitter Heather DesMarais provided 6 kills on 18 attacks with no errors for a .353 attack percentage. ENMU’s setter, Lindsey Davison (Sr., Kelso, WA/Columbia Basin College) played a solid match, with 30 assists, 2 kills (.250 pct.) and 8 digs. She now has 1,996 career assists, and needs 397 assists to reach the ENMU record of 2,393 set by Stacey Estlund (1996-97). Lakeena Jones led the Rambelles with 11 kills, 15 digs and 3 block assists. Jennifer Robinett contributed 6 kills, 7 digs and 4 block assists for Angelo State, while Lisa Cliver provided 10 digs. The match was ENMU’s second at home this season. The Zias, now 2-0 at Greyhound Arena, remain at home tomorrow (Sat., Sept. 25) to take on Abilene Christian in another LSC South Division match. ACU fell to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in the LSC after losing tonight (Sept. 24) at West Texas A&M, 15-8, 15-7, 15-7. |
