FLOYD WHITE NAMED LSC SOUTH DEFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
PORTALES, NM — Floyd White, a senior linebacker at Eastern New Mexico University, has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week for his efforts in ENMU’s 20-14 win at Northeastern State (Okla.) on Sat., Sept. 25. It is the third time White has received the Player-of-the-Week award during the past two seasons.

White (6’1”, 230 lbs., Pampa, TX/Pampa H.S.) previously was chosen LSC South Defensive Player-of-the-Week for his performances against Southeastern Oklahoma on Sept. 26, 1998 and Abilene Christian on Oct. 3, 1998. He was Eastern’s second leading tackler last year, with 87 total tackles.

In Saturday’s victory over Northeastern State, White recorded 6 tackles and 6 assists for the Greyhounds. He also blocked a 20-yard field goal with 7:59 left in the game and ENMU leading, 17-14.

White helped the ENMU defense limit NSU to just one first down and 7 total yards in the fourth quarter. The Redmen finished the game with 278 total yards, but earned only 72 yards in the second half.

For the season, White is third on the ENMU squad in tackles, with 19 solo stops and 17 assists for 36 total tackles. He has recorded 4 tackles for losses (22 yards lost). He has also forced a fumble and intercepted a pass.

ENMU leads the Lone Star Conference in scoring defense, allowing just 34 points in four games (8.5 avg.). Eastern New Mexico, 4-0 overall (2-0 LSC) and ranked #7 in this week’s NCAA Division II Poll, hosts Abilene Christian University (1-2) in the Homecoming game on Sat., Oct. 2. Kickoff at Greyhound Stadium is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (MDT).
