ENMU TO INTERVIEW A FOURTH CANDIDATE
FOR HEAD MEN’S BASKETBALL COACHING POSITION

PORTALES, NM — Rosie Stallman, athletics director at Eastern New Mexico University, has announced that Jerry Carrillo will interview on the ENMU campus next Tuesday and Wednesday, Apr. 18-19, in the search for a new head men’s basketball coach.

Carrillo is currently head men’s basketball coach at Cochise College, a community college in Douglas, Ariz. Carrillo has guided Cochise to five consecutive winning seasons and four straight appearances in the NJCAA Region I Tournament. He has an overall record of 100-57 since arriving at Cochise prior to the 1995-96 season. His 1999-2000 team won the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) title, claimed the Region I Tournament championship, and advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Cochise was ranked as high as #14 in the NJCAA Poll and set a school record for wins with a 25-9 record. The Apaches were 24-8 in 1998-99. Carrillo previously was head boys’ basketball coach at Buena High School in Sierra Vista, Ariz., from 1992 through 1995. His team averaged 18 wins his last two seasons, and reached the Arizona State Final Eight in 1994.

He has also been an assistant coach at the junior college and four-year college levels. He coached at Jamestown Community College in Jamestown, N.Y., in 1989-90, and joined the staff at Cal State-Northridge (NCAA Division I) for the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons.

He received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of Arizona in 1987. He majored in Physical Education, and earned a minor in Health Education. Carrillo completed a Master of Arts degree in Physical Education while he was at Cal State-Northridge in 1996. His degree included an emphasis in teaching and coaching.
